Message from the Principal
Dear P.S. 130 Families,
We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well during these difficult times. We miss seeing you and our students’ smiling faces, faces that bring us daily joy.
Congratulations on completing the first week of Remote Learning through our Google Classroom platform. Remote Learning is a change for all of us and we respect and honor the efforts of all community members!
This past week, Ms. Specchia and I have been visiting our virtual classrooms to touch base by posting messages in the stream and joining virtual class meetings. Student participation has been wonderful and we thank you for supporting your child at home. We are very proud of our teachers and staff members who have created opportunities for community connections and continued learning. Please know that you and your child can only do your best. We understand that there are many challenges that may not allow for assignments to be completed each day. Students will be recognized for assignments that they complete and submit outside of school hours. We remain flexible and are here to work together to design a system that works for all members of the community.
Your child's teacher is your first line of communication and we thank teachers and families for working collaboratively, more than ever before, during this time of transition.
Our extended team supports for you include:
Kelly Pawson, Parent Coordinator: Support in obtaining devices, specific questions, attendance, and serving as liaison for you. Mrs. Kelly Pawson can be reached at KPawson@schools.nyc.gov.
Meryl Schachter, Guidance Counselor: Support with any social-emotional concerns or with helping your child during this transition. Ms. Meryl Schachter can be reached at MSchachter3@schools.nyc.gov.
Aileen Hennelly, Technology Teacher: Support with technical issues or navigating Google Classroom. Mrs. Aileen Hennelly can be reached at AHennelly@schools.nyc.gov.
In addition, if you require additional technical assistance, families can access this page https://queensnorth.strongschools.nyc/remotelearning/familyresources for support and resources from our Borough Citywide Office. It is a great resource for families with any inquiries related to remote learning.
Our school website www.ps130queens.weebly.com may also provide you with access to remote learning resources and information on accessing Google Classroom.
As always, Ms. Specchia and I are here for you about any concern or matter you may have. You may reach us at Mcontra@schools.nyc.gov or Cspecch@schools.nyc.gov. We will continue to do everything possible in order to make the transition to remote learning as smooth as possible for both you and your child.
